HASSAN, Masahiro IMACHI * , Norimasa TSUZUKI** Department of Physics, Kyushu University, Fukuoka 812-81, JAPAN Hiroshi YONEYAMA *** Department of Physics, Saga University, Saga 840, JAPAN Abstract Character expansion developed in real space renormalization group (RSRG) approach is applied to U(1) lattice gauge theory with θ-term in 2 dimensions. Topological charge distribution P (Q) is shown to be of Gaussian form at any β(inverse coupling constant). The partition function Z(θ) at large volume is shown to be given by the elliptic theta function. It provides the information of the zeros of partition function as an analytic function of ζ = e (θ = theta parameter). These partition function zeros lead to the phase transition at θ = π. Analytical results will be compared with the MC simulation results. In MC simulation, we adopt (i)“set method” and (ii)“trial function method”.

Vafa-Witten theorem and Lee-Yang zeros

We show the absence of singularities and Lee-Yang zeros in the partition function of QCD for imaginary values of the θ-vacuum parameter. This fact has an important consequence: the absence of a first order phase transition at θ = 0. The result provides a key missing link in the Vafa-Witten proof of parity symmetry conservation in vector-like gauge theories and follows from renormalizability, un...

Instanton Expansion of Noncommutative Gauge Theory in Two Dimensions

We show that noncommutative gauge theory in two dimensions is an exactly solvable model. A cohomological formulation of gauge theory defined on the noncommutative torus is used to show that its quantum partition function can be written as a sum over contributions from classical solutions. We derive an explicit formula for the partition function of Yang-Mills theory defined on a projective modul...

We consider the entanglement entropy for a sub-system in d + 1 dimensional SU(N) lattice gauge theory. The 1 + 1 gauge theory is treated exactly and shows trivial behavior. Gauge theories in higher dimensions are treated within Migdal-Kadanoff approximation. We consider the gauge theory in the confinement phase. We demonstrate the existence of a non-analytical change from the short distance to ...

Monte Carlo Studies of Two-Dimensional Systems with a θ Term

A θ term, which couples to topological charge, is added to the twodimensional lattice CP 3 model and U(1) gauge theory. Monte Carlo simulations are performed and compared to strong-coupling character expansions. In certain instances, a flattening behavior occurs in the free-energy at sufficiently large θ, but the effect is an artifact of the simulation methods. 1) E-mail address: [email protected]...

Wilson Loops in 2D Noncommutative Euclidean Gauge Theory: 2. 1/θ Expansion

We analyze the 1/θ and 1/N expansions of the Wilson loop averages < W (C) >Uθ(N) in the two-dimensional noncommutative Uθ(N) gauge theory with the parameter of noncommutativity θ . For a generic rectangular contour C , a concise integral representation is derived (non-perturbatively both in the coupling constant g2 and in θ ) for the next-toleading term of the 1/θ expansion. In turn, in the lim...
